Vehicle History Report

ONE OF TWO MAGNIFICENT TWINS in our showroom.

In the April 1971 CYCLE GUIDE test report on the 1971 Suzuki TM-400R Cyclone they offered up that, “The new Suzuki TM 400R Cyclone is the first real grand prix class moto-crosser to come out of Japan yet”. They also stated that, “the TM 400R has the capability to make a winner out of an also ran”. In the July 1971 issue of POPULAR CYCLING they were a bit more critical of the 1971 TM-400R saying, “It’s not perfect but you have to start somewhere”. Again, however, acknowledging that this was indeed the first truly serious dedicated moto-crosser to come out of Japan. It is no wonder that the TM-400R is still, to this day, acknowledged as the “genesis” of the soon to come dominance in world class moto-cross racing as Suzuki went “ALL IN” in hiring Swede, Olle Petterson, Belgians Sylvain Goebers, Joel Robert, and Roger DeCoster as team development riders on the European circuit.

The 1971 TM-400R Cyclone is considered by many to be the single most collectible Japanese off road racer today. The TM-400R was produced from 1971-1975 and every year saw evolutionary improvements in both handling and motor tractability. Because of its fire breathing high horsepower 396cc and its somewhat stiff suspension and high center of gravity, the 1971 TM-400R Cyclone was nicknamed “THE WIDOW-MAKER”, by some, for its tendency to eject riders that were anything less than judicious in their use of that amazing power over anything but smooth terrain. Most of the bad habits were weaned out over the 5-year run of production and the final 1975 TM-400R was a stellar mount.

So, here is your opportunity to own a genuine piece of “Motocross History”, the true “Widow-maker”, the 1971 model. This beauty (and its twin, yes we currently have two of these magnificent steeds in our inventory, can you ever have too many TM-400Rs?) was professionally restored to concours condition and needs absolutely nothing but a proud new owner. Like many of the historically significant MXers of this era, most TM-400Rs are now on display in museums, penthouse executive office foyers, or prominent private collections. To the best of our knowledge, these are the only two examples of the 1971 Suzuki TM-400R Cyclone/Widow-maker currently available for acquisition in the USA.

Automobile, Truck, and SUV Note: All of our cars, trucks, and SUVs are professionally detailed both inside and out. All of our cars and trucks receive a multi-point safety inspection and a fresh Mobil 1 full synthetic oil change, oil filter, air filter, and cabin filter service. Every car and truck sold, at Minnesota Motorcars, leaves our store with a full tank of gas and a road side emergency kit (which we hope that you will never need to use). Please visit our car store to experience our very relaxed and friendly approach to car sales and see just how easy and pleasant car buying can be.

Vintage Motorcycle Note: With all of our vintage motorcycles, we first fully inspect them, then we service all the fluids with the proper viscosity oils of the highest quality, then they are started and test ridden to check engine, brakes, clutch, and gearbox function along with carburetor jetting and function.  After that, we drain the fuel from the tanks and carburetors and treat the interior of the tanks and the pistons and cylinder bores with "Corrosion X aviation grade" preservative. All of our beautiful vintage motorcycles are then finely detailed to as close to concours collectible condition as possible.  All of these beauties are ready for home, office, man cave, or museum display. Or, if you are like us, you can fuel them up and take them for a "rip".
