This beautifully restored 1974 "Pomeroy Replica Model" Bultaco 360 Pursang just arrived at our store and is currently available for purchase. The 1974 Pursangs are a significant milestone and piece of motocross history for Bultaco.
In the 1960s, Bultaco had been a successful brand in American scrambles and local motocross, but their stock rose when American upstart Jim Pomeroy shocked the motocross establishment by winning the 1973 Spanish 250 GP. News of the victory created a wave of excitement in America, where motocross was undergoing an explosive growth cycle. Bultaco was founded in 1958 by Francisco Xavier Bulto. Early models were plagued with excessive weight and power that few riders could tame. But that all changed in 1973 with the purpose built factory motocross racer, the 250 Pursang, ridden to victory by American Jim Pomeroy in the 1973 Spanish Grand Prix. By 1974, the 360cc Pursang was nearly identical in design to the factory racer 250 that Pomeroy had ridden to win that Spanish GP, but with more even more power. That extra power was also much more manageable with a significantly wider power band than the 250. Thanks to the low seat height and slack head angle, the Pursang was a sliding fool. Bultaco 360 riders would just pitch the bike into a corner, dial on that more manageable power, and pass on the outside line. There was no need to take the inside line. The 1974 360 Pursang was an absolute jewel. The engine cases, triple clamps and hubs were highly polished, while the fiberglass fenders, side panels, airbox and fuel tank were painted. Other niceties included a Femsa ignition, Betor suspension and Akront shoulderless rims with Pirelli tires.
This beautiful example starts on the first or second kick, every time. She runs, shifts, and rides as a new bike. This stunner would definitely be equally at home on the starting line of a vintage motocross race or as the centerpiece of any vintage motorcycle collection.
Note: This sale also includes the personally signed photograph of Jim Pomeroy winning the 1973 Spanish Grand Prix.
